Home remodeling is usually done by a licensed professional carpenter or contractor. General contractors work on all kinds of projects, from bathroom remodels to major office buildings to new homes. Carpenters, who work with wood, make furniture and carve surfaces within the home. Students looking for a career in home remodeling need to be well-rounded engineers, problem-solvers, and hard workers.

Many construction workers or people who wish to become contractors or construction managers, get their first taste of the business pouring concrete or hanging shingles. For a formal apprenticeship, you must be 18 years old and agree to a 3 or 4 year program with a firm or individual. Some individuals have training in home remodeling from a community college or vocational school.
