WyoTech provides training in automotive technology, auto technology, auto body, diesel, aviation, HVAC, chassis fabrication and high performance engines, street rod and custom fabrication, and trim and upholstery. Students can choose to receive their education on one of WyoTech’s nine campuses. more

Automotive Technician Degrees Offered:

• Chassis Fabrication and High Performance Engines

  Chassis Fabrication and High Performance Engines is a three-month course that may be added to the Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology or Collision and Refinishing Technology core programs. Courses cover topics including specialty chassis fabrication, frame and front suspension design, MIG and TIG welding, frame modification, rear axle set-up and suspension, cylinder head modifications, precision measuring, blueprinting, camshaft degreeing, supercharging and turbocharging and more.

• Applied Service Management

  The Applied Service Management program provides students with a foundation in shop management principles specific to the automotive and diesel industries. Courses cover topics that include shop management, communications, economic theory, shop setup, purchasing/pricing, marketing/advertising, word processing, parts inventory, accounting, research, and data management. This is an add-on course that may be added to the Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology or Collision and Refinishing Technology core programs.

• Advanced Diagnostics (Certificate)

  The Advanced Diagnostics certificate provides students with a broad study of the technical skills necessary to succeed in the field. Courses cover the logical diagnostics approach to repairing sophisticated, late model vehicles and includes preparation for the California Smog Technician License Exam. Graduates are successful in any position that requires an understanding and fluency in diagnostics.

• Street Rod and Custom Fabrication

  The Street Rod and Custom Fabrication program is an add-on course of study that provides students with an in-depth study of techniques used to customize vehicles. Courses cover topics including sheet metal fabrication, basic hand tools, specialized equipment, specialized finishes, body soldering, installation of hidden pin hinges for suicide doors, construction of firewalls, floorboards, transmission tunnels and customized paint techniques including special effects, airbrushing and pin striping.

• Advanced Diagnostics

  The Advanced Diagnostics program offers students an opportunity to enhance their skills in automotive diagnostics and repair with an advanced course of study in the technical skills and logical diagnostics approach to repairing sophisticated, late model vehicles. Preparation for the Smog Technician License Exam is included in the coursework. Graduates are successful in any position in auto repair that requires an understanding of advanced diagnostics.

• Auto Technology

  The Automotive Technology course of study provide students with a broad foundation in the science and technology behind the diagnosis and repair of any problem under the hood. Courses cover topics including basic engine management systems, driveability diagnostics, drivetrain systems, and chassis. Add-on courses for specializing are available in service management, applied service management, street rod and custom fabrication and more.

• General Automotive

  There are a number of Auto Technology certificates available to choose from, including Automotive Technology I and II, Applied Automotive Technology diploma, Associate degree in Occupational Studies with a concentration in Automotive Diagnostics or Service Management. Each offers a focused curriculum that allows the student to specialize and become a more valuable employee. Admissions representatives are available to assist students in finding the program best suited to their needs.

• Trim and Upholstery

  The Collision/Refinishing program offers students the opportunity to explore additional work in Trim and Upholstery. Courses cover topics including basic seam construction, insert construction, seat reconstruction, trim panels, carpets, convertible tops, vinyl tops, sun visors, head liners, tonneau covers and more. Graduates are successful in the layout, design, creation and installation of custom trim and upholstery.
