Online General Studies Degrees

It is in the nature of a liberal arts education to be broadly-based.  Rather than training you in a limited skill set, it aims at widening your horizons, enlivening your mind, and sharpening your ability to think and talk clearly on a range of topics.  A general studies degree program thrives on those principles.

What is included in a general studies degree program?

There is no simple answer to this question and that is part of the magic of general studies! Against a background of core degree training you can opt for classes in widely varying subjects.  This will not be a pick-and-mix free-for-all, and your college will have rules, but you may be surprised by the freedom you have to develop your interdisciplinary interests.  You may be able to select degree classes from arts and literature, social studies, and science.  You can either align your training towards a particular career, or use your degree to develop your general mental abilities.

General studies degree – after graduation

Employment opportunities after your have completed a general studies degree program are as varied as the program itself.  Graduates with this training find jobs in business, libraries, nursing, journalism, advertising, and teaching, to cite just a few examples. They also go on to earn master’s degrees and even doctorates.  How much you will earn and your job outlook will depend on the area of work you choose.  But you have shown your ability to learn and think, and that will make your attractive to a wide range of potential employers.
