Online Forensics Accounting DegreesForensics AccountingThe role of forensic accounting is highly specialized and revolves around actual or anticipated legal disputes. The term forensic refers to something being appropriate for use in a court of law. It is to this end that companies employ forensic accountants. Generally, those employed in forensic accounting work for accounting firms. The job requires analytical and problem-solving skills akin to those required in law enforcement. It also requires a rather scientific approach. The work of forensic accounting is held to a very high standard and as such, the job requires extensive training. Earning a Degree in Forensic AccountingMost employers will be looking for applicants with at least a bachelor's degree, however those individuals serious about a career in forensic accounting will face better opportunities if they have a master's degree. A typical program will cover issues of fraud, embezzlement and bribery. Many individuals choose to study further in order to qualify for certification, such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. Job ProspectsThe U.S. Department of Labor predicts faster than average employment growth for accountants, in particular due to increasing tax regulations and financial laws. The growing awareness of financial crimes and recent corporate scandals has created further demand for those with training in forensic accounting. Growing use of computer technology further fuels this demand. Average earnings for accountants and auditors were $50,770 in May 2004, though top positions commanded salaries of more than $88,000. Starting out might first require taking a junior position, however with a degree or training in forensic accounting you can expect to face better job prospects, particularly in larger companies.
