School Review: City University of Seattle

City University of Seattle was founded in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. It is a private institution that has awarded more then 40,000 degrees since its opening. While City University is primarily a campus-based study institution, they also offer online degree programs as well as blended study -- a mixture of campus-based and online courses. Through their online college, City University of Seattle awards associate, bachelor, and master degrees as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates.

Online classes at City University are conducted through message boards. Online instructors are required to hold the same degrees as campus-based instructors. However, online instructors are also required to have special training in distance education instruction. City University offers financial aid to its students in the forms of federal grants and loans. Students interested in obtaining federal financial aid will need to complete a FAFSA prior to beginning their classes. They also accept scholarship award proceeds, though students must find scholarships on their own.

Through their School of Management, City University of Seattle awards online B.S., M.S., and MBA degrees. Their undergraduate and graduate certificates in business are available in 14 different concentrations. City University offers one M.Ed. degree program as well as four different undergraduate endorsements in education. Finally, they offer A.S., B.S., and B.A. degrees online through their school of Arts and Letters in addition to two undergraduate certificates.

City University of Seattle is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Online students at City University have access to an online library and bookstore in order to aid them in their studies. In addition, online instructors maintain office hours where students can contact them through classroom discussion board, email, or phone.
